Learning Intention: To gain an understanding of the
three type of questions – Literal, Inferential, and Applied.

Literal, Inferential, and Evaluative
Question Answering
Literal = the answer is clearly written in the text, you can point to it, there is unlikely to be any disagreement as no interpretation is necessary. questions have responses that are directly stated in the text
Applied = questions beyond the text, what do you think might, why do you think something is happening, what could have happened before, what caused......, what could happen next. They are open ended with many possible correct answers. questions require the reader to formulate a response based on their opinion.
Inferential = it is in the text but not clearly stated, there are hints or clues in the text to give you the answer, you have to put together the clues and what you already know to work it out. There is sometimes disagreement about the answer, you find evidence in the text to support your interpretation.
